Kung Fu Panda 2

Jack Black is back as Po The Dragon Warrior whose mission in this second Kung Fu Panda is to save Kung Fu against the evil Lord Shen. In order to be successful he must first achieve the next level of his training and find inner peace. Once again the animation is superb and all the main characters return making this a great sequel enjoyable for the whole family.

Thor

I have to admit I am kind of a sucker for any type of "super hero" movie and this one surprisingly did not disappoint. The special effects were much better than I anticipated and Chris Hemsworth was the perfect choice for the hammer wielding hero. Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston were also great in their roles of Thor's father and brother. I would have loved to see this film in 3D, but still enjoyed it immensely.

The Fighter

Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale stare in this movie based on the true story of Micky Ward's fight to get out of the shadow of his big brother's boxing career, and more recently his addiction to crack and make a name for himself in the ring. Christian Bale steals the limelight doing an amazing job of portraying the drug addicted older brother who still lives in his past glory days. Overall an enjoyable movie to watch.

Black Swan

Natalie Portman was amazing in this complicated picture about a sweet, hardworking ballerina who is striving for the lead role in Swan Lake but whose director is not quite sure she can handle the role of the "black swan". She must find a way to reach a completely different side of herself to achieve the role, but without losing herself in the process. An intriguing movie, with a few controversial scenes that make this a movie for a more mature audience.

Letters to Juliet

I have to admit if you watched the previews for this movie than you pretty much know the whole story. A fairly common storyline where girl is engaged to the wrong guy meets Mr. Wonderful, and of course they fall in love and live happily ever after. I have to admit that I was much more interested in the Grandmother's love story than the young kids, but of course how can you not be when it involves Vanessa Redgrave. Overall a romantic-comedy that is extremely predictable but enjoyable. I am a sucker for a cheesy love story with a happy ending and now of course I would love to visit Verona, Italy.

The Blind Side

What else do you say about this movie other than it was just all around outstanding. The fact that it is based on the true story of professional football player Michael Oher is just icing on the cake. Sandra Bullock was wonderful as Leigh Anne Tuohy and Tim McGraw did surprisingly well as her husband. Add in Kathy Bates who is usually great and you have a wonderful movie that eveyone should see. Bullock's Oscar for best actress was rightfully given.

Old Dogs

Old Dogs turned out to be a very disappointing movie for such a wonderful cast. The plot had potential but somewhere along the way someone really screwed up in the way they wrote the characters. Both main characters played by John Travolta and Robin Williams were more annoying than anything and you can tell that they even had a hard time getting into the role. The best thing about the movie was the co-stars who had much smaller roles (Seth Green, Matt Dillon, and Bernie Mac). I'm sure some folks will still enjoy the movie, but I had trouble not shutting it off.

The Princess and the Frog

This is the story of when hard-working waitress Tiana meets spoiled Prince Naveen (who has been turned into a frog) and their journey to break the voodoo spell that has been cast on him. Along the way they meet some wonderful new friends and of course get into all sorts of trouble. Disney does an amazing job with their first film to have an African-American star. The wonderful visual effects and amazing music along with a ton of comedy thrown in makes this movie a great family film that everyone will love.

Four Christmases

In an effort to avoid spending Christmas with their dysfunctional families Brad and Kate make up an excuse of why they cannot come and have plans to take off to Fiji for the Holidays. When their plane is cancelled and they are caught on live TV suddenly their plans change. Now they have to attend 4 different Christmas gathering and get to know each others family. The question becomes will they and their relationship survive it? Great cast but a mediocre movie that is definitely not a must have. If it has starred anyone else it would have been truly painful to watch.

Imagine That

Eddie Murphy stars in this comedy about a workaholic dad who is growing estranged from his daughter in his effort to climb the corporate ladder. His daughter copes by creating imaginary friends...or are they imaginary? When her imaginary friends start giving him financial advice that turns out to be very profitable he starts spending more time with her in order to keep gaining this helpful advice. Along the way he is slowly mending the relationship with his daughter until he finally has to decide which love of his life is the most important...his work or his daughter. A cute comedy that is fun for the whole family.

Aliens in the Attic

When two families join up for a relaxing vacation the kids are sure it is going to be boring. When the vacation house is invaded by Aliens and the kids are determined to fight them and save the planet all without letting their parents know, things get a lot more exciting. A cute family movie that kids will enjoy.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

All of your favorite characters are back in this latest Ice Age movie with the addition of a few new ones like Buck (Simon Pegg) and a female squirrel who joins the battle for the nut. Ellie and Manny are expecting a baby and so Sid and Diego are trying to find their place in the world. Along the way they come in contact with some dinosaurs and of course another fight for survival has begun. Fans of the other movies will also enjoy this one.

Sunshine Cleaning

Two sisters who are simply try to make a modest living, but who need more cash stumble upon a potentially lucrative business of being crime scene cleaners. They soon find that not only is the work a little repulsive, but they didn't count on how tough it is emotionally. A fairly funny and emotional movie that will not be an Oscar winner, but is enjoyable to watch.

The Proposal

When high-powered book editor Margaret (Sandra Bullock) realizes that she is about to be deported back to Canada she lies and says that she is engaged to her assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds). Andrew promises to remain silent in exchange for a promotion. When the couple travels to Andrew's family birthday party in Alaska they begin getting to know each other and realize that the fake engagement might not be as easy to pull of as they originally thought. A funny and enjoyable movie filled with a great cast.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

While attending the wedding of his brother, notorious ladies man Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) begins to receive visits from the ghosts of old girlfriends. During these visits he realizes that his life might not be as perfect as he thought it was and if he doesn't make some changes he will lose the only woman he ever loved. A cute movie, but they went so over the top making McConaughey a jerk that by the end of the movie I didn't really like him.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Did you ever wonder about the story behind the X-Men superheros? This movie finally tells the story about Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) from his family to how he ended up with knives in his hands. An action packed movie that us adrenaline junkies will enjoy.

Lost in Austen

Even though her own love life is a mess Amanda Price is a romantic at heart and so she loves to escape into her favorite Jane Austen books any chance she gets. One day she gets more than she bargains for when a door opens and she literally walks into Pride and Prejudice. She pretends to be Elizabeth's friend while she tries to figure out how to explore this amazing world while not messing up the story. I thought this movie was very funny and really good.

The Soloist

Journalist Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) finds an interesting story when one day he comes across a homeless guy playing classical music on a broken violin. As he starts talking to the guy he discovers that his name is Nathaniel Ayers (Jaime Foxx) and he used to be a student at Juilliard. Determined to get a good story about why a Juilliard student is now homeless he starts spending more time with Nathaniel and realizes that he is getting involved in much more than a simple story. Foxx did an amazing job in this role and it is a touching story even if it is not the best movie.

Hannah Montana The Movie

Miley Cyrus stars as Hannah Montana in this movie about one girls struggle to figure out how to handle being famous and having a normal life. When Hannah starts acting like a typical spoiled and thoughtless celebrity her dad whisks her away to see her grandmother in Crowley Corners, TN to remind her where she came from. While she is there she reconnects with a boy she grew up with and starts questioning what she wants in life. Fans of Hannah will love the movie.

17 Again

When Mike (Matthew Perry) was in high school he was popular, the basketball star, and had an amazing girlfriend. His life is on a great path until she gets pregnant and everything changes. Not happy with the way his life turned out Mike now in his 30's wishes he could go back and magically he falls into a river and comes out 17 again. Now he see if being young is as great as he remembered. When I started to watch this I expected it to be really corny, but found it to be funny and very entertaining. Efron did a pretty good job and is definitely growing up to be one of the next heartthrob's.
