Georgia Rule

When Rachel's (Lindsay Lohan) mom doesn't know what to do with any more she decides to send her to spend a summer with her grandmother Georgia (Jane Fonda). Once they start spending some time together Georgia quickly realizes there are some deeper issues that are causing Rachel to be so difficult. I think this film is a bit misleading, because you go into it expecting it to be a comedy and then it deals with some really tough issues. I like Jane Fonda so was able to get through the movie, but it was not one of my favorites.

Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End

In this 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean movie Jack Sparrow is rescued once again by his faithful followers. They then begin a harrowing journey where they have to unite with other pirates to battle the powerful Davy Jones and the East India Trading Company. This movie was very long and a bit confusing, but with all your favorite characters returning it is still fun to watch. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) always makes the movie.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Lord Voldemort is back in this 5th Harry Potter movie and with him are his faithful followers The Death Eaters. To battle this group of evil, Dumbledore brings back his own "anti-Voldemort gang" the Order of the Phoenix. Not wanting the students of Hogwarts to be taken unaware Harry begins to train his own group of followers to prepare them for the unavoidable battles sure to come. Of course anytime you take a book and turn it into a movie you are going to lose some content, but I really enjoy the Harry Potter movies and this one is no exception.

Bourne Ultimatum

Jason Bourne returns in the final part of the Bourne trilogy, and finally gets some of the answers he has been searching for. In this final film you are able to start putting the missing pieces of Jason Bourne's life together and figure out how he became who he is. It is also fun to see him go for a little revenge against those that made him. I am still not crazy about the shaky filming, but I still enjoyed the movie.

Ocean's 13

Danny Ocean and his crew are back, and this time the game is personal. After crooked Vegas hotel owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) double crosses Reuben wiping him clean, the boys reunite to get revenge. I love all the characters in this movie, but found the movie a little boring and predictable. If it didn't have such a large cast of great looking men I would have probably turned it off.

The Nanny Diaries

When Annie (Scarlett Johansson) isn't sure what to do with her life she decides to simply find a job. Through a chance encounter in the park she ends up agreeing to be a nanny for a wealthy family with one son. She quickly realizes being a nanny pretty much means she is the surrogate mother and she grows very attached to her young charge. As she gets to know the family she realizes there is a lot more than meets the eye, and she is now in the middle.

Superbad

This is a coming of age comedy about two best friends who are desperately trying to get noticed before they go away to college. The objective is to make it into a big party, but the stipulation is that they provide the beverages. This movie is very funny even though it has quite a bit of language and crude humor. I have to say that I really thought Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and the cops (Seth Rogen & Bill Hader) steal the show.

Deck the Halls

Dr. Steve Finch (Matthew Broderick) has his Christmas perfectly planned out until his new neighbor Buddy Hall (Danny Devito) moves in. These two guys couldn't be more different. Finch wants everything decorated tastefully, where Buddy goes crazy and tries to make his house so bright it can be seen from space. A competition soon erupts that might ruin Christmas for both of them. This is a pretty predictable movie, but it is still a cute holiday film for the whole family.

Hairspray

This is a star filled musical about Tracy Turnblad who has the dream of one day dancing on the Corny Collins show. One day she gets the chance to audition and realizes that talent alone might not be enough. She has to deal with some bigger issues to make her dreams come true. Even though it was a little strange seeing John Travolta as a woman I thought this was enjoyable to watch. Nikki Blonsky was a great Tracy Turnblad.

License to Wed

When Sadie and Ben decide to get married, Sadie wants to get married in the church where her parents married. In order to do so they have to pass the marriage prep course. Little do they know that the prep course is filled with some awkward and trying tests. I really went into this one thinking is was going to be horrible. I thought it was kind of funny and enjoyed watching it.

Surf's Up

This is the story of Cody Maverick, a penguin from Antarctica whose dream is to win a big surfing contest. He gets his chance when a scout finds him and takes him to compete. Of course when he gets there things don't go as smoothly as he hopes, but with the help of an old surfer he finds his way. I found this cute, but I think the adults will enjoy it more than the kids will.

The Invisible

When Nick Powell (Justin Chatwin) is beaten badly and left for dead by a tough and rebellious female classmate his "spirit" goes on a mission to see if he can help the police find him before it is too late. Oddly enough the girl who hurt him is one of the few who can hear him, and as the two work to understand each other they realize they had a lot to learn. This was a great movie. It was different than I thought it was going to be, but really enjoyable to watch.

Meet The Robinsons

This movie is about Lewis, a 12-year old orphan who desperately wants two things, to get adopted and to make one of his inventions work. One day Wilbur Robinson shows up to warn Lewis about an evil villain (Bowler Hat Guy) that is from the future. This starts their journey to the future where you meet the rest of the odd Robinson family. Another cute Disney movie that the whole family will enjoy.

Ratatouille

In this animated movie a clumsy kitchen boy and an amazing rat team up to become the next great chef. Remy, a rat that has an amazing cooking ability knows he could never cook in a restaurant kitchen as himself so he uses Alfredo to disguise who is doing the actual creating. I thought this movie was really cute. I am a fan of the new Pixar movies and find them very creative and enjoyable.

Spiderman 3

Tobey Maguire is back as Spiderman in this 3rd movie about the famous comic book super hero. This movie is as much about Spiderman's battle with his own dark side as it is about his battle against the other evil villains. Not as good as the other Spiderman's, but an enjoyable movie that is worth watching.

Evan Almighty

Steve Carell plays Evan Baxter a new Congressman who is ready to "change the world". Morgan Freeman returns as God who asks Evan to build an Ark. Even tries everything in his power to resist complying, but finally gives in and does as he is told. I thought this was a very funny and cute movie. A great family film that will be enjoyed by all ages.

Transformers

In this movie based off the popular TV series, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) buys an old corvette and is surprised to see it convert into an alien robot. He then ends up in the middle of an alien robot war between the evil Megatron and the good guys who are trying to save the Earth. I really enjoyed this movie. It was action packed and funny at the same time. Shia LaBeouf is an outstanding actor that makes any movie enjoyable.

Fantastic 4 - Rise of the Silver Surfer

In this second Fantastic 4 the four super heroes come up against the Silver Surfer who is doing the evil bidding of Galactus, a planet devouring, meteor looking killer. If you like the comic book type movies you will probably like this movie.

Blood & Chocolate

This is the story of the loup garou or the remaining werewolf pack in Romania. In this movie they are led by Gabriel and every seven years he selects a new mate. His first choice is a young woman/werewolf who does not want to kill or become the next chosen mate. She meets a human male and becomes really conflicted between love and loyalty to the pack. I really enjoyed Olivier Martinez as Gabriel and thought this was a pretty good movie overall.

Next

Cheesy Las Vegas magician Chris Johnson (Nicolas Cage) leads a pretty simple life because he wants to hide his true gift, he can see 2 minutes into his future. When a Government agency needs his help to protect the Country from a dangerous terrorist event he has to put everything on the line. If you watch this movie for pure entertainment you will enjoy it. This is not Nicholas Cage's or Julianne Moore's best movie by any means, but I liked it.

Delta Farce

Three guys out for a "guys" weekend of fun get mistakenly joined up with a group of soldiers heading for Iraq. During a freak storm they accidentally get ejected out of the airplane somewhere in Mexico, but when they wake up they think they are in Iraq. They battle it out with a Mexican warlord and have to become real soldiers. I admit I thought this movie was so dumb I shut it off half way through.

Side Effects

In this movie about pharmaceutical sales, Katherine Heigl plays Karly Hert who even though she has no medical training successfully sells drugs to doctors. In the process she gets seduced by the money she makes even though she questions the ethics behind putting profit before patient care. This is a really good movie, because it talks about a real issue in an entertaining way.

Death Proof

Kurt Russell plays a deranged stunt man who decides he is going to go on a killing spree using his hot rod car. This works out okay for him until he meets up with the wrong group of girls. If you like Quentin Tarantino you will probably like this movie, but it was really one big violent car chase so I found it a little boring.

RV

Robin Williams plays Bob Murno, a workaholic dad who tries to take his family on a vacation and make it to a big presentation for work at the same time. He decides traveling by RV is a great way for his family to spend time together and allow him to get some work done on the sly. Of course there are some mishaps along the way and they meet some other crazy RV characters that make the trip extra interesting. I really thought this movie was going to be really bad when I sat down to watch it, but it was surprisingly good. Not an Oscar winner, but I enjoyed it.

Knocked Up

A one night stand ends up just like the movie title says with successful TV personality Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) knocked up. The interesting part is that the daddy-to-by is broke loser Ben Stone (Seth Rogen). To very different people who barely know each other try to see if they can make something work. A very funny movie but definitely not one for the easily offended. The movie is filled with lots of language, sex, and drugs but will make you laugh often and out loud.

Bobby Z

Paul Walker plays Tim Kearney who agrees to help the DEA by impersonating Bobby Z (a major drug dealer) in exchange for getting out of prison. He quickly realizes there is a lot more going on than he originally thought and fights to stay alive. I happen to be a huge Paul Walker fan so I don't know if I liked this simply because he is in it or because it might actually be a decent movie...probably because he is in it.

The Condemned

Steve Austin plays Jack Conrad a military black ops specialist who gets let out prison to participate in a "game to the death" against 9 other death row inmates. The game is being aired live on the Internet and millions of viewers are tuned in to see the violence unfold. A violent and action packed movie that tries to throw in a few life lessons about the world today.

DOA

Based on the video game, DOA is about a martial arts tournament held on a remote island. Of course the tournament leader played by Eric Roberts has some behind the scenes stuff going on that make the plot more interesting. Some of the contestants unite to get to the bottom of his evil plans and become friends in the process. I have to admit that I liked this movie. I always like Devon Aoki and I even thought Jaime Pressly was pretty good in this role.

Perfect Stranger

After the murder of her friend Rowena Price (Halle Berry) goes on a mission to find evidence that powerful executive Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis) is the killer. I was really disappointed in this film. With two great actors it should have been much better than it was. It does have a twist at the end, but not enough to save it.

The Ex

Zach Braff plays Tom a new dad who seems to have trouble holding down a job and finding a direction in his life. When he starts working for his father-in-law he comes face to face with his wife's (Amanda Peet) ex-boyfriend (Jason Bateman) and things start heading south. Not a very good movie, so I wouldn't waste the time watching it.

Lucky You

Eric Bana plays Huck Cheever a professional poker player who risks everything for the game. As he prepares for the biggest poker game of the year he meets Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore) and his priorities start to change. This movie is about poker, love and Huck's relationship with his father (Robert Duvall). Not an Oscar winner but not a bad movie. I prefer Eric Bana when he is kicking someone's butt.

We Are Marshall

Based on the true life events of Marshall University in West Virginia when in 1970 almost all of the University's football team and coaching staff were tragically killed in a plane crash. This movie is about the new coach whose goal was to breath life back into the community, college, and football program. A sad, but pretty good movie. I thought Matthew Fox stole the show!

Firehouse Dog

After famous Hollywood dog Rex gets separated from his owner and manager he stumbles upon a troubled teen (Shane). Shane and his single father Connor (who is also a firefighter) take Rex in and quickly realize that this is no ordinary dog. This is a cute movie that the whole family will enjoy.

Fracture

Anthony Hopkins plays Ted Crawford who masterminds a brilliant scheme to kill his wife without being convicted of the crime. Ryan Gosling plays Willy Beachum the cocky attorney who tries unsuccessfully to convict him for the attempted murder. This was a really good movie and Hopkins and Gosling had great on-screen chemistry.

Unaccompanied Minors

A group of kids traveling alone at Christmas get snowed in together at a airport that is shut down due to a huge blizzard. After realizing that the "unaccompanied minors" room in completely unacceptable they sneak out to find other things to do, and in the process begin a battle with the airport management. I think this was an attempt to make a newer version of Home Alone, but it wasn't near as funny. It is a clean cut family movie that is okay to watch, but don't go into it with too high of expectations.

Shut Up & Sing

This documentary follows popular country singers the Dixie Chicks after the 2003 concert where the lead singer announced her displeasure with the President and his decision to go to war in Iraq. It is truly amazing the impact her words had on the next several years of their career. This movie definitely makes you question whether there is such a thing as "free speech". I enjoy their music and I enjoyed this movie.

The Last Mimzy

Noah and Emma Wilder find a box of mysterious "toys" on a beach one day that upon further discovery give them some new and amazing abilities. As their parents and a local science teacher get involved they realize these "toys" are much more important than they look, and soon the government is involved. The goal is to help Mimzy with her quest before it is too late. I thought this was a cute movie. It kind of reminded me of E.T. with a bunny instead of a cute alien. Probably a little scary for little ones though.

Ghost Rider

Nicolas Cage plays Johnny Blaze who accidentally gives up his soul in order to try and save his father's life. He must then live his life during the day as a man and at night as the Ghost Rider. Based off of the comic series. This was an okay movie, not great but not bad. I was thrilled to see Sam Elliott again.

Hot Fuzz

After a top London cop spends so much time being so good that he makes the rest of the force look bad they decide to transfer him off to a small town. Once he is there some bizarre crimes start happening that puts him right back in the heat of things. Of course all the locals keep calling them "accidents" because things like that don't happen in Sandford. I thought this movie was pretty entertaining. It has kind of a twist towards the end. I guess I will sum it up as Reno 911 meets Scream.

The Ultimate Gift

After spoiled Jason Stevens' (Drew Fuller) very wealthy grandfather (James Garner) dies he leaves him with a series of "gifts" or tasks that he must complete in order to receive his true inheritance (the "ultimate gift"). Jason starts a journey that teaches him about money vs. happiness, and makes him take a closer look at how he has been living his life. I really enjoyed all the actors in this film and Abigail Breslin from Little Miss Sunshine does another great performance. I highly recommend watching this, but if you are anything like me you will need a box of tissues. This is a wonderful movie.

I Think I Love My Wife

In this movie Chris Rock plays Richard Cooper, a straight-laced and hard-working husband with 2 children that is simply bored with his life. Into his life walks an ex-girlfriend of one of his friends that is everything his wife is not. As she tempts him to stray, he tries to figure out if he loves his wife enough to resist. Kind of a cute movie even though it won't win any Oscars. This is based off an older movie (Chloe in the Afternoon) but since I haven't seen the previous version I can't compare.

Norbit

Once again Eddie Murphy plays not one, but three different characters in this movie about a orphan who marries a heavy girl more out of fear than love. He secretly longs for his one true love from his youth that comes back into his life after he is already married. Kind of dumb, not really funny, and overall a waste of time. Does anyone else secretly weep for the Eddie Murphy from Beverly Hills Cop? Where did he go?

Zodiac

This is a movie based on the true story about the famous Zodiac killer that was never brought to justice. Mark Ruffalo, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Robert Downey Jr. star in this film about the San Fransisco killer that not only killed randomly, but taunted the police and press as he did so. I enjoyed this movie even though it is kind of creepy to think about a monster like this never being caught.

Reno 911 - Miami

The cops from Comedy Central's television show hits the big screen. The Reno cops travel all the way to Miami for a police convention and end up being in charge of fighting crime when the convention is the target of a biological attack. I have to admit that sometimes I find the show funny, but the movie was just plain dumb. Not worth watching.

Bridge to Terebithia

This is the story about a boy who does not fit in at school and so has trouble making friends. A new "odd" girl moves to town and even though he at first doesn't like her because she beats him at a foot race, they start forming a friendship. He soon realizes that she has an amazing imagination and together they form their own private make believe world filled with all sorts of mystical beings. This is a cute book based movie.

Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls

This is a movie about Monty, a struggling father of 3 who loves his children, but has to fight the judicial system to try to keep them away from their horrible mother and her drug dealing boyfriend. This is not the best acting, but the plot is cute.

Astronaut Farmer

Billy Bob Thornton plays Charles Farmer, who after having to quit the NASA program to take care of his family, decides he is going to space anyway. He proceeds to build his own spaceship in his barn, and when the powers that be realize it might actually work they work to keep him from launching. This is a really cute family movie about making your dreams come true not matter what the obstacles are.

300

Based on the graphic novel this action packed movie is about the story of a small group of die-hard Spartan soldiers taking on a massive force of Persians in a series of bloody battles. Gerard Butler does an amazing job as Leonidas, the Spartan King. This is a great job of bringing a graphic novel to life in a truly bloody and visually stimulating way.

Loverboy

This is a very disturbing story about a woman, who so badly wants a child of her own that she will do just about anything to conceive one. Then after she is successful, she is so obsessed with him she does not want to share him with anyone else. I had a hard time watching this one, maybe because the plot is sad, or maybe because Sedgwick's character is simply nuts. Great cast of actors.

Black Snake Moan

Samuel L. Jackson plays Lazarus who after finding promiscuous Rae (Christina Ricci) on the side of the road where she had been badly beaten and left for dead, decides he is going to take her in and cure her of her "evil ways". In the process of helping her he realizes he has some of his own issues to deal with. This was definitely a different movie, but it did have a decent "moral to the story". There is quite a bit of sex and language in this film.
