Knowing

The movie begins with a time capsule being buried at a new elementary school and a strange girl's contribution to the capsule is a sheet of random numbers. When the time capsule is dug up 50 years later and each child is given a letter the son of scientist John Koestler (Nicholas Cage) receives the numbers. He realizes the numbers represent every major disaster that has happened in the past 5o years and that there are more numbers indicating things happening in the near future. A strange movie that was not horrible, but not one of Cage's best.

Push

This movie is about some children who have "special" abilities and who are hiding from a corrupt governmental group called the Division who are trying to take all those with abilities and create an all-powerful weapon. They have to unite to defeat those who want to destroy them. A major disappointment.

New In Town

When Lucy (Renee Zellweger) volunteers to take a temporary move to Minnesota to re-structure company factory she never bargained on the total culture shock it would be. Not only are the employees odd and belligerent, but she comes to really like them and the union guy representing them. Kind of a cheesy move with horrible Minnesota accents, but many will like it.

Bride Wars

Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson star in this movie about 2 best friends who are both engaged to be married and whose weddings are accidentally booked on the same day. Common sense says one of them would have to change the date, but unfortunately if they do they cannot have their dream wedding location. A war begins between the two brides. I know this was supposed to be really funny, but it was so over the top I have to admit by the end of the movie I didn't like either one of them.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Based on the best selling books, this comedy is about a serious shopaholic who is trying desperately to get a job with a glamorous fashion magazine, but unfortunately the closest she can come is a financial magazine in the same building. As she tries to get noticed by the other magazine she has to deceive her cute boss and try to control her spending. This was a very cute and funny movie worth watching.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Brad Pitt stars in this film about a hideous looking baby that is left on a door step of an African American lady who takes care of elderly people. Curiously even though she takes him in and expects him to pass away at any time he surprises her by starting to get younger. I was really expecting to dislike this movie, but found that I actually enjoyed it.

Doubt

Sister Aloysius Beauvier played by Meryl Streep is the principal of a catholic school that has recently acquired a "new age" priest (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who seems to want to change things up a bit. When she starts having suspicions that not all is what it seems with the new priest and a new male student she is determined to get rid of the priest even if she does not have any proof. This is a pretty good movie filled with a great cast.

Fired Up

When two high school football stars decide that they do not want to go suffer through football camp they come up with a scheme to surround themselves with beautiful girls and attend cheerleading camp instead. Even though their plan is to hook up with some beautiful girls and then take off along the way they begin to care about the girls and the competition. This was actually a pretty funny movie that I was surprised to find that I liked.

Defiance

Daniel Craig stars as one of the Bielski brothers who were Jewish men who escaped being captured during World War II. He and his brothers were responsible for protecting a group of refugees determined to not be casualties of the Holocaust. This was a good movie and one worth watching, even if solely to learn about the event.

Taken

When retired government spy Bryan Mills' (Liam Neeson) daughter gets kidnapped while on vacation in France and sold into a prostitution ring it is up to him to get her back. What follows is a dad who will do anything to bring his daughter home. A very violent and disturbing movie and one action junkies will love.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

When a very spoiled Chihuahua named Chloe gets kidnapped and taken to the Mexican dog fights her dog sitter, landscaper, and landscaper's dog must search for her. At the same time Chloe is trying to make her way home with the help of a retired police dog Delgado. This is a very funny and cute movie that is enjoyment for the whole family.

W

Josh Brolin plays George W. Bush in this movie about the previous President's rise to the White House and actions during office. Whether you like this movie or not will probably depend on your thoughts about the previous President.

Valkyrie

Tom Cruise stars in this film about the final attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler. As many soldiers pretended to be loyal to Hitler there were many who formed secret organizations that were determined to get rid of the evil leader. Even though the end of the story is well know it was interesting seeing how close the attempt came to succeeding.

Last Chance Harvey

Dustin Hoffman plays Harvey, a commercial jingle composer who really has a pretty sad life and so focuses most his time on work. As he heads to his daughters wedding he meets another lonely soul played by Emma Thompson and he realizes he has one more chance to turn his life around. Kind of a slow movie, but not bad.

The Spirit

Similar to Sin City, The Spirit is another made from a comic book movie with the typical crime fighter, bad guy, and sexy ladies. Unfortunately that is where the similarities end because even though it had a great cast it was really poorly done and kind of boring.

The Reader

When a young boy gets violently ill on his way home from school and finds kindness from a lonely older woman (Kate Winslet) a new friendship is formed and they quickly become lovers. As they spend time together they often pass the time with him reading to her which he enjoys doing and she loves listening. Years later the next time he sees her it is at a war crime trial in which she is being charged for things she was a part of during that time. This was really a pretty good movie and Kate Winslet did an excellent job.

Changeling

Angelina Jolie stars in this, based on a true story, drama about a single mother whose sons goes missing. Instead of admitting they cannot solve the crime a corrupt police department forces her to admit that another boy is her son. She has to decide to accept this new boy as her own or fight the police department and take the chance of never finding her real son.

Revolutionary Road

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet reunite in this drama about marriage and trying to be part of the typical suburban life. After moving to a suburb in Connecticut and starting a family it is not long before their "perfect" life begins to unravel. I love the two stars but found the movie kind of boring.

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes To Jail

Madea is back in Tyler Perry's newest movie Madea Goes to Jail. In this newest movie Madea's mischievousness finally catches up with her when after trashing a rude lady's car she is sent to jail. At the same time the movie follows a troubled prostitute and a lawyer that have a past, but now have to work together to keep her from going to jail for an unjust amount of time. If you like Tyler Perry's movies you will like this one even though it spends more time on the other characters than it does on Madea.

Inkheart

Brendan Fraser plays Mo Folchart a "silver tongue" who every time he reads allowed he brings the story to life. When he accidently brings out some unwilling and some unsavory characters of the book Inkheart and his wife is read into the book Mo spends years trying to figure out how to fix his mistake without causing more damage. It wasn't a bad movie, but it just felt like they missed a lot of the story when it was over.

He's Just Not That Into You

This movie is packed with stars and focuses on the idea that girls and guys see relationships in a completely different way. The main character Gigi is constantly trying to read more into a guy's words and actions than are actually there until a friendly bartender schools her in the correct way to see guys. At the same time you follow several other characters and their various relationships. I loved this movie and found it to be fun in its harsh honesty.

Yes Man

Jim Carrey stars in this comedy about a guy who basically hates his life until he becomes a "yes man". Once he attends this seminar and starts saying yes to life everything starts to change for him. Kind of a typical Jim Carrey movie but not bad to watch.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Keanu Reeves plays an alien visitor who basically tells the humans that he needs to destroy the human race to protect Earth because it is the humans that are killing it. Along the way he meets a scientist and her young son who work to convince him to give the humans another chance. This movie was really poorly done and I'm sure most just watch it because they like Reeves.

Not Easily Broken

This is another movie about love, marriage, and spirituality. When a young married couple faces some major challenges they have to decide which tough path they are going to take, fighting for their marriage or giving up. I liked this movie because it really makes you stop and think.

Recount

This movie is about the 2000 Presidential election and all that happened during the voting mix-ups in the close election between Bush and Gore. I found this an interesting movie to watch and it does cause you to wonder "what if".

American Teen

This documentary follows the story of a handful of teens, how different their lives are, and how they survive the teenage high school years. You have the rich popular girl, the jock, the alternative girl, and the girl crazy dork. This is a really good movie that would be a good teaching tool in High Schools. You find that you really start liking and disliking the main kids and can't wait to find out what happens to them.

The Lucky Ones

This is basically the story of three different Iraq War Veterans two of which are just home on leave because they have been injured and one is done with his term. They form a friendship that unites them as they each deal with a different tough issue.

Slumdog Millionaire

This is the story of Jamal and his brother who are orphaned as children and who have to do whatever it takes to survive in a tough neighborhood. When he gets older he gets a chance to be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and you see how the different dramatic events in his life help him answer the questions in the game. This was an outstanding movie and it was completely deserving of the Oscar.

Rachel Getting Married

As Rachel (Rosemary DeWitt) is preparing for her wedding her sister Kym (Anne Hathaway) has to leave rehab to join the festivities, and in doing so brings with her some darkness and drama. As the events unfold you realize there is some past family trauma that has caused Kym's downward spiral that still has to be dealt with. A different role for Hathaway but one I thought she did a great job on. A dark and disturbing movie.

Milk

Sean Penn plays Harvey Milk in this movie about the true story of the first openly gay city supervisor. This story of Harvey Milk follows his rise through the political world and focuses on his battle to win equal rights for homosexuals in a very dangerous time. Sean Penn did an amazing job portraying Milk making it easy to understand why he was nominated for so many awards for the role.

Igor

In the dark and gloomy town of Malaria there are two types of people the Scientists who create amazing inventions and their worthless assistant's the Igor's. For one Igor that is not enough because he knows that he should be a Scientist. When he sets out to create a wonderful new creature and succeeds he is determined to change the Igor's place in the world. I really didn't like this movie and definitely do not consider it a film for children.

Long Shots

Ice Cube stars in this movie about the first girl to play on the Pop Warner football team who in turn gives a rundown town some hope for the future. A cute family movie.

Religulous

Bill Maher decides to question various religious beliefs in this documentary film where he travels the globe questioning what some believe to be absolute truth. Whether you agree with him or not it is an interesting film to watch.

Australia

Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman team up in this film about Australia during the 1930's. Kidman plays an uptight lady who travels to Australia to make sure some cattle make it to market. In order to succeed she needs the help of the Drover (Jackman). This was not a good movie and if it wasn't for a couple of huge actors it would have been really painful to watch.

Hellboy 2

Hellboy is back in this sequel about the demon/man secretly working for the government to fight other non-human evils. This time he comes up against an evil Elf trying to cause havoc. The same lovable characters return in this second Hellboy. I enjoy these movies...they are funny and action-packed at the same time. If you like the first you will like the second.

Role Models

After being dumped by his girlfriend Danny (Paul Rudd) goes a little crazy at a power-drink presentation and ends up getting himself and his co-worker Wheeler (Sean William Scott) in trouble with the law. Instead of serving time they are sentenced to working at a mentoring organization where they both get paired with troubled boys. A little crude but very funny movie. The parts were perfectly cast.

Marley & Me

Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson star in this fun comedy/drama about "the world's worst dog". Trying to postpone his wife from wanting to have a baby John Grogan decides to get her a puppy not realizing that she is about to pick Marley who proceeds to cause an amazing amount of trouble for one dog. This movie is funny and sad but overall just a great movie.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Kevin James is Paul Blart, mall security officer who lives with his mom and desperately wants to get the girl and become a real cop. When his love interest and shopping mall is taken hostage by bad guys it is up to Paul to save the day. Kevin James is always fun to watch and this movie is no exception. A clean family movie.

Seven Pounds

Will Smith and Rosario Dawson star in this drama about a man who uses a fake IRS badge to get to know seven strangers so that he can decide if he wants to make their life better. As the story progresses he finds himself falling for one of the young ladies he is hoping to help, and that could derail his plans. This was a strange movie that jumped around, but was fascinating and enjoyable to watch.

Bedtime Stories

When hardworking hotel maintenance man Skeeter (Adam Sandler) is stuck watching his niece and nephew he has no idea what to do with them so decides to make up bedtime stories. Strangely the next day after he tells a story they seem to come true. Skeeter tries to make the stories up so that great things happen in his life, but the children have other ideas. This was a cute movie and if it is wasn't for Sandler using a really annoying voice I would have enjoyed it much more.

Body of Lies

Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio star as CIA agents working to bring down a terrorist leader. Along the way they have to figure out who they can actually trust. With such an outstanding cast I thought this would have been a much better movie. I found it really boring.

Eagle Eye

Shia Labeouf stars in this action-packed movie about a boy who lives a fairly boring life until one day he comes back to his apartment to see if filled with random stuff and a phone call from a female voice telling him what to do. Along the way he meets up with a single mom being directed by the same voice. Not the best movie but if you are a fan of Labeouf you will still enjoy watching it.

Ghost Town

Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear, and Tea Leoni star in this comedy about a rude dentist who goes to the doctor for a routine procedure and "dies" for a few minutes. Afterwards he has the ability to see ghosts who inconveniently want him to help them. One particular ghost (Kinnear) will not go away and promises that if he helps him he will make the other ghosts go away. Even though the story line has been done this movie was very cute and surprisingly funny.

Bangkok Dangerous

Nicholas Cage is back in another action packed movie only this he plays an assassin sent to kill some enemies of a bad guy in Thailand. His job demands he act alone only this time that is easier said than done. Before he realizes what is happening he finds himself attracted to a local girl and mentoring a young man. If you like action movies this is one worth watching.

Zack and Miri

Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are friends and roommates on the verge of being evicted from their apartment, and the only money making idea they can come up with is to try and make a homemade porn movie. As they work to put together the perfect cast, crew, and script they discover this might not be as easy as it sounded. For those that like Kevin Smith movies you will find this movie hilarious, but for those easily offended I would not recommend watching it.
