Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

This fourth installment of the Pirates movies puts Captain Jack Sparrow and a lot of the other villains on the quest for the Fountain of Youth. Along the way there are of course various treacherous obstacles to overcome and only one person will actually be able to drink from the fountain so the battle is to see who that person will be. I don't know if I am just getting tired of the series or what but I found myself much more interested in what was happening with the mermaid and Philip than I was the Pirates...maybe I just missed Orlando and Kiera.

The Princess and the Frog

This is the story of when hard-working waitress Tiana meets spoiled Prince Naveen (who has been turned into a frog) and their journey to break the voodoo spell that has been cast on him. Along the way they meet some wonderful new friends and of course get into all sorts of trouble. Disney does an amazing job with their first film to have an African-American star. The wonderful visual effects and amazing music along with a ton of comedy thrown in makes this movie a great family film that everyone will love.

The Taking of Pelham 123

In this remake of the 1970's movie John Travolta stars as Ryder, a criminal who decides to hijack a subway train and hold the train and the people inside hostage for 1 million dollars. Denzel Washington plays the subway dispatcher in communication with Ryder and who has to find a way to stop him and save the hostages. I like Travolta as a bad guy so I enjoyed the movie...I did have trouble with what a weak character Washington played, but overall it was still a fairly good movie.

The International

Clive Owen plays Louis Salinger an Interpol agent working tirelessly to bring down a corrupt bank he believes in dealing in arms. Every time he gets a witness that will finally help him crack the case they end up dead. I found this movie boring and disappointing.

Duplicity

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen are corporate spies working on opposite sides of the battle to next famous beauty product. During the battle they begin a love affair and attempt to create their own scam against both sides. Even though I am a fan of all of the stars I found this movie kind of tough to follow and enjoy. Not horrible, but not as good as I thought it would be.

Idiocracy

Do you ever wonder what would happen to the world if only the least intelligent people procreated? This movie tries to jokingly show what that world would look like. Luke Wilson stars in this comedy about a really backwards world where he wakes up one day and is the smartest man on the planet. A silly but oddly enjoyable movie, but it makes you think about whether something similar could be our future.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Based on the best selling books, this comedy is about a serious shopaholic who is trying desperately to get a job with a glamorous fashion magazine, but unfortunately the closest she can come is a financial magazine in the same building. As she tries to get noticed by the other magazine she has to deceive her cute boss and try to control her spending. This was a very cute and funny movie worth watching.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

When a very spoiled Chihuahua named Chloe gets kidnapped and taken to the Mexican dog fights her dog sitter, landscaper, and landscaper's dog must search for her. At the same time Chloe is trying to make her way home with the help of a retired police dog Delgado. This is a very funny and cute movie that is enjoyment for the whole family.

Death Race

Set a little in the future when prison's become a profit business "death races" are formed. Inmates are chosen to race to the death for the Internet viewing pleasure of the world and the financial pleasure of the prison warden. Jason Statham is hand picked and wrongly accused to go to prison for his driving ability and participate in this deadly contest. If you like your movies violent and you like Jason Staham you will love this one.

21

Based on the book Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions, this movie is about a group of brilliant kids who decide to use their math abilities to win tons of money in Vegas. Of course when one casino security guy (Laurence Fishburne) starts to figure it out things get interesting. A really good movie that keeps you guessing.

The Bank Job

Jason Statham stars in this movie about a bank robbery that goes smoothly at first, but has some complications when all the bad guys that they stole from get involved. Not Statham's best movie, but action junkies will still enjoy it.

Penelope

Penelope (Christina Ricci) is born with a pig snout in place of a nose as part of a family curse that can only be broken if she finds someone to love her just as she is. Her family hides her away but offers money to anyone that will come and marry her. A down on his luck gambler (James McAvoy) decides to try his luck and there is an instant connection. Of course there is always more to the story. A cute family friendly love story worth watching.

Wall-E

When trash starts to take over the world the humans are sent to outer-space with the promise that robots will clean it up so that they can return. Eventually the only robot left working to get rid of the trash is Wall-E, a lonely robot who doesn't realize he is working on a hopeless cause. One day a small space-ship lands and EVE arrives, a newer robot whose mission is to see if she can find any proof of sustainable life. A very cute movie that will be enjoyed by the whole family.

The Bucket List

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman team up as 2 men who meet while in the hospital seriously sick and form an unlikely friendship. When they start making a "bucket list" which is a list of everything they want to do before they die, their friendship takes a different turn when they decide to take off and do the things on the list. These 2 great actors make the movie funny and sad and overall really enjoyable to watch.

The Other Boleyn Girl

Based on the bestselling novel The Other Boleyn Girl is about 2 very different sisters who end up competing for the same man. When the girls uncle decides that Anne (Natalie Portman) should seduce the King (Eric Bana) to better their situation they are all surprised when it is her sister Mary (Scarlett Johansson) who claims his attention. Driven by jealously Anne is determined that she should not only win over the King, but should be his Queen. Not a horrible movie but I thought it would be better with such a good cast.

There Will Be Blood

Daniel Day-Lewis plays Daniel Plainview a man who lives his life based on one goal...to find oil and make money. Everything in his life is overshadowed by this one goal. Day-Lewis won the Oscar for this role, and it is a strange but surprisingly good movie and one after watching you can definitely understand why he took home all the awards.

What Happens in Vegas

Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Dias join up in a romantic comedy about what can happen in Vegas when 2 people who are having a tough time decide to go crazy in a wild trip to Las Vegas. When the two of them meet up in an accidental double booking of their hotel room, it begins a night of hanging out and partying until they drunkenly end up married. They quickly realize their mistake, but when fate steps in and they win $3 million at the slot machines as they are about to part ways they are forced to stay married a little longer if they want to keep the money. This movie was absolutely hilarious and the pairing of Kutcher and Dias was genius.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones returns in his 4th installment. This one is about some evil villains who are looking for the crystal skull so that they can obtain the power of the city of gold. Of course they need Indiana Jones to help them find the skull and so starts his involvement in this adventure. Some new characters such as Shia LaBeouf and Cate Blanchett join the group and you also see the return of an old flame Karen Allen. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be but I guess I am just over Indiana Jones because I think they should stopped at 3.

No Country For Old Men

When a broke hunter (Josh Brolin ) is out hunting one he stumbles across a drug deal gone bad and $2 million dollars in cash. He takes the money but then has to quickly flee the area because the folks who lost the money want it back. The guy they send to find the money (Javier Bardem) will stop at nothing to get it back, and Brolin is trying to stay one step ahead of him. This is a violent, but very good movie. It is obvious why it won so many awards including Best Picture.

Mad Money

Bridget (Diane Keaton) a wealthy upper class stay-at-home wife's life suddenly changes when her husband loses his job and she has to go to work. The only job she can find is a janitorial job at a bank. She comes up with a plan to take the money going to the shredder and needs to find a few more ladies to make her plan a success. She enlists Nina (Queen Latifah) and Jackie (Katie Holmes) to help. This movie got horrible reviews, but if you watch if for pure entertainment value it is not bad.
